ROSES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Walking through the garden on a lovely November day, the camera will never reveal what the eye beholds and the soul feels. La Biche laden with blooms mingled with Cardinal Hume and Blush Noisette's buds, a bouquet. Another look - Tempi Moderni, the blue-green perfect leaves with orange blooms that stay on the bush forever. Secret Garden Musk, so pure and white with fragrance of cloves, brings one closer. Paris de Yves St. Laurent peeking over Powis Castle. Banksia Purezza, a few lovely blooms among the purple Beauty Berry, the golden orange leaves of the native dogwood makes one ponder the beauty of the season. Writing again on a warm December day, we begin our 21st year with expanded offerings of over 1200 exciting varieties. Our dedicated staff continues year after year to care that the roses are of the highest quality, grooming them as if they were going to a rose show. Spring '08' so beautiful, but short and June arrived with August temperatures. Drought followed. We are blessed with creeks that continued to run although many days we worried they would not. Each year brings us sadness and joy. Our sadness this December was the loss of our Polly. We spent 17 wonderful years together. She was 85 working through this past July. I will miss her so! Father Jerome will have to pick up the pace as she was our prayer warrior. A few roses of many in this garden that I will mention as exciting, not only in flower but for their place in the garden. Weeks: Julia Child, adding Cinco di Mayo for continuous color. Viru Viraraghaven: Faith Whittlesey & Coffee Country The best for last - OUR OWN - MYSTIC BEAUTY. I personally grew an extra 10 just for me. My continuing report - "Nothing Finer", not only in SC but all over the US. Beauty of flower, continuous bloom, perfect shape and size of plant. The total package! - WOW Rated in the top ten of garden and exhibition. Will Henry - our sport of Playboy. Softest coral blooms cover the plant of healthy green foliage. So lovely in containers. MS Hope - plant HOPE to help wipe out MS. My life has been enriched with this project to have met these brave ones with MS. Some spring, journey our way to enjoy the greenhouses with thousands of gorgeous roses and May only comes once a year with gardens in their glory. To every thing there is a season and a purpose.
